Advocating for Sustainable Energy Systems at COP Negotiations

Updated: Apr 25

As we look towards a sustainable future, the importance of advocating for secure and equitable energy systems has never been more pressing. The YOUNGO Energy Working Group is at the forefront of this movement, focusing on driving change through active participation in the Conference of Parties (COP) negotiations.

This initiative covers a wide range of energy-related work streams within the UNFCCC, with a primary focus on the Mitigation Track and GST. The group is also actively involved in other crucial areas such as the Technology Mechanism, Financing Mechanism, and Article 6. By engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clean energy professionals, government organizations, NGOs, and youth advocates, the group is able to amplify their message and drive real change on a global scale.

One of the key objectives of the YOUNGO Energy Working Group is to raise awareness and promote sustainable energy solutions through thought leadership articles, capacity-building sessions, and partnership building with like-minded organizations. By identifying opportunities for participation and fundraising, the group is able to mobilize resources and support for their cause.

Looking ahead, the group has set strategic priorities for future COP negotiations, including energy governance reform, enhancing youth capacity for energy advocacy, and developing a Global Youth Statement on Energy. By coordinating efforts towards these goals, the group aims to have a significant impact on shaping the energy policies and practices of tomorrow. As we move towards COP28 and beyond, the work of the YOUNGO Energy Working Group will be instrumental in driving forward the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future. By coming together and advocating for change, we have the power to make a real difference in the world.
